Utilizing Gigabit Ethernet to Go Online and Surf the Internet
Remember when the internet first came about? How slow it was to surf the Internet, now that has changed. With a Gigabit Ethernet connection you can surf at a rate that is a Gigabit per second. Amazing and fast, no more slowly loading pages. When Ethernet first increased from 10 to 100 megabits, it was a huge success. But the next step in that line of great technology was a Gigabit Ethernet. Many different types of Gigabit Ethernet are out there available for you to use. The IEEE 892.3ab, which defines the ideas and limits of the Gigabit Ethernet came about back in 1999. This is when organizations could begin using the copper cabling to bring in Ethernet.
When it first came out it was mostly used as a way for high capacity networks to operate. Such places as college campuses or larger companies were using the Gigabit Ethernet. Starting in April of 2009 these Gigabit Ethernets where beginning to be placed into personal computers that consumers could buy. But most of these systems seem to not be able to handle the speed of the network. The different layers of Gigabit Ethernet are the use of optical fiber (1000BASE-X) or a twisted pair cable (1000BASE-T), or the copper cable (1000BASE-CX). Also there is a multi-mode fiber which is designated as the 1000BASE-LX. Each uses a different type of encoding for the transmission. The distances for each are different too. For copper the distance is 25 meters that can be reached.
While the Standard multi-fiber can reach 550 meters. This is the same distance for the LX multi mode fiber. However as you go up in wavelength the single mode can reach all the way up to 10 km. All of these different Gigabit Ethernets have their pluses to them. It will be nice once they can be used in a normal computer for consumer use. Once the problems are worked out from bottlenecking and other components of the computer being able to keep up with the speed.
However, they will need to be connected correctly in order to work even then. Though for most people who can even run up to 1000 megabits will notice a huge difference in the speed with which they download. The speed of that is amazing when you look back to even just a few years ago.
As technology gets better the speed of which we are able to surf the Internet is becoming much quicker. Life on the web is no longer a wait for the page to load up, just imagine though when the drives and everything can meet up with that Gigabit Ethernet. It’s going to be simply amazing, and something that many younger children will be used to. They will never understand their parents when it is explained how the Internet used to be so slow. It’s going to be like the stories that our grandparents tell us about walking three miles or so in the snow to school every day.
